Preparing the Kickstarter for the final book in The Tides That Reign series over a year after finishing its first draft has put me in a contemplative state of mind.

Contemplative, of course, serving as a euphemism for “frequently dissolving into fits of panic about how it will be received.” It’s far easier to build up an epic fantasy yarn than it is to close one – a widespread concern made apparent by just how many beloved works fall flat in their final chapters.

But rather than focusing on the stories whose endings evoked disappointment, frustration, or even anger; I like to highlight those many sagas that came to a satisfying end. A glorious end, even.

Which finales worked best, in your opinion? I want to know what you think of as the pinnacle of closing chapters and why you feel that way. Let me know below so I can see if my opinions match yours.

It’s not a newsletter unless I’m hawking something! But really, I do think you’ll all enjoy the audiobook for Design of Darkness, which releases tomorrow across platforms!

It bears repeating that Jordan Moore did a fantastic job narrating the first entry in my The Tides That Reign saga, bringing these characters to life in ways that I couldn’t. The surreality of having an audiobook out has yet to wear off, and is somehow stranger to me than holding the books in my hands for the first time.

In addition to my website, you can find the audiobook on Spotify, Audible, Chirp, and most other platforms where audiobooks are sold. You can even request it at your local library! Although, I can’t guarantee they’ll purchase a copy.

In terms of the In the Wake of the Blade Kickstarter, we are on the cusp of 70 pre-launch followers! That’s a great number two months out from launch, but I am hoping to eclipse 115 pre-launch followers by October 1st.
